INTELLIscribe Virtual Print Driver

INTELLIscribe acts as a Virtual Printer Port/Driver (LPR Client) allowing users to print locally or remotely, without a network server and for a lower ownership cost than a network server. INTELLIscribe provides a robust, economical alternative to centralized spooling by using Internet protocols.

The INTELLIscribe Virtual Print Driver will print from your PC to ANY IP-addressed or network printer, whether the printer is in your office or home. Using INTELLIscribe's Virtual Printer Driver, your system resources on the network server are freed up, allowing your server to concentrate on other tasks.

Virtual Printer Port/Driver Print Flow Information

A virtual printer port is a named port, which associates a Windows® printer with one or more network printing destinations. This needs to be set up before you start printing with INTELLIscribe.

  1. The user prints a file from any application to a Windows printer, which is configured to print through the "INTELLIscribe" printer port.
  2. The application formats the data specifically for the printer using the Windows print driver.
  3. INTELLIscribe retrieves the formatted data from the Windows spooler, and then sends the print data to any printer, regardless of the manufacturer or model.
  4. INTELLIscribe spools the print job to the destination configured in the "Virtual Printer Port." Any TCP/IP- addressable printer or print server that supports either the LPR/LPD protocol or JetDirect protocol is suitable.

INTELLIscribe Quick-Start Guide

The first time you start INTELLIscribe, the program will open two setup Wizards. The first configures the "virtual printer port(s)." The second associates a "Windows printer(s)" with the virtual printer port(s) so that INTELLIscribe's virtual printer port(s) is associated with the correct Windows printer.

When an application prints, INTELLIscribe intercepts the print job and spools it to the configured printer or print server.

Once you have the Virtual Print Wizard set up, you are now ready to print to your network/IP-addressed printer. Simply select the printer from the application (e.g. word processing program) that you have associated with the virtual printer port and print.
